Performance
This week we didn't have that much time in instrument class, in fact our instrument class time were used for performance. Mr. John was the one who accompanied us with our 12 bars blues improvisation. When it was time for me to play my improvisation part, I was so nervous that I made so many mistakes.

Reflection Question : How was my understanding of blues after my performance?
In week 10 its time for us to do our performance of our 12 bars blues. Te whole music class played their own improvisation of 12 bars blues according to their groups of instruments. I can now relate to the 12 bars blues improvisation to the Jazz genre, since Jazz uses improvisations a lot.

Improvisations
Reflection Question : How is my understanding now about improvisations especially in blues.
This week we learn more in depth about improvisation as we received the improvisation techniques that were commonly used by musicians all over the world. We learned the improvisation technique later on in instrument class. As I am getting to know more about improvisation, I now understand how to apply it when playing around with other musicians.

Week 8
Blues
Reflection Question : Explain how the roles of blues in the development of early jazz
Blues sounds a little bit like jazz, That's why I think that early jazz must have been developed from blues. In the 12 bars blues we're supposed to improvise and make our own melodies from the given chords. Since I learned that improvisations is a very crucial element in jazz I figured that maybe Jazz was the one that was influenced by Blues. Another thing that I find is that Jazz songs and Blues songs are never played the same way twice, due to different improvisations and improvisations techniques used by different musicians.

Week 7
Practice
In this week's instrument class, I spend most of my time learning my 12 bars blues composition. I asked help from Mr. John to accompany me while I play the melody of the composition. Mr. John told me that I need to keep up with the beat, since I lost track when I see some of the rests signs.

Week 7
Practice 12 Bar Blues
Reflection Question : How do I practice and apply my 12 bars blues at home
During instrument class is where I practice my 12 bars blues most of the time to be honest. I practice at home only quite a few time, since I prefer to practice at school with Mr. John, that way he can help me as I'm learning my composition. At home I have no one to help me, so it's quite difficult to learn by myself.

Week 6
Blues
In guitar class we didn't have enough time to do anything, since we spend most of our time in theory class with Mr. Herry. All we did in instrument class is jam around and played some songs. Some of us actually got lucky and get to have time to practice their 12 bars blues with Mr. John.

Week 6
Blues
Reflection Question : My challenges working on my 12 bars blues finale task
Working on the 12 bards blues is indeed quite a difficult task to do, since I need to put in the notes that are relevant to the chords or so. After I'm done with my draft of 12 bars blues I start to put the notes in one by one in the finale software. I had some troubles putting in the correct kind of notes in the software, for example the 1/8 notes and the rests.

Week 5
Playing Blues
In guitar class we asked Mr. John to check whether our 12 bars blues compositions are according to the chords or not. I was having some difficulties putting in the flat sign, since I just started learning it in class with Mr. Herry. When Mr. John checked my composition, he founds some errors in them so I have to fix them.

Week 5
Blues
Reflection Question : How is my understanding of blues and playing 12 bars blues
Compared to Jazz, Blues is not that interesting for me since its kind of sounds the same like Jazz too with a little bit of swing in them as well. Since I just started to learn about Blues, I might find it a little challenging to learn at first. If I want to put it in the 12 bars blues, I will need to follow the melodies according to the chords provided
Example : C7 = C, E, G, Bb.

Chords of Singing
Since we were told that we will have our singing this week, some of us practice our singing in instrument class. Mr. John accompanied us using his guitar, and he helped us practice singing too, since we forgot some of the lyrics.

Week 4
Singing
Reflection Question : How do you understand the learning of jazz through your assessments done till now?
Since we weren't given that much assessments about singing in the past few weeks, we weren't able to practice our singing yet. Instead we were learning more in depth about Jazz and everything around it. We were told to do an essay about the history of Jazz, the techniques used in Jazz, and also to research about the different types of improvisations.

Week 2
Mr. John Absent
Sadly this week, Mr. John was absent, so we didn't have time to really learn anything new about Jazz. As guitar students we all spend most of our time jamming together, helping others, and fixing each others' mistakes. We played some music together and sing-a-long together as well.

Week 2
Background of Jazz
Reflection Question : How is my progress in learning the Jazz and it's roots.
My progress in learning jazz is quite slow actually, since it's hard to adapt to the swing tempo that jazz are known for. Some of the chords in the song are a little bit confusing for me to play in the guitar. My progress in knowing the history of Jazz is also quite slow as well, since there's a lot of musicians that were involved in the making of Jazz.

Week 1 16-20 January 2012
When The Saints Go Marching In
In this week's instruments' class, Mr. John taught us about the song "When The Saints Go Marching In." It's a song that comes from the early jazz era, specifically from the band called Dixieland. I think that the song doesn't sound anything like a jazz song, maybe it doesn't have that jazz swing feel.

Week 1 16-20 January 2012
Interest in Jazz
Reflection Questoin : How did you find the topic of jazz and how did the teacher do it.
I think that we as students are lucky enough to see the teachers performed together, and it was kind of them to do so. We were able to grasp a little view on how jazz sounds like. After seeing their performance, I was more interested in learning the Jazz genre. The handouts that were given to us about Jazz music help me understand a little bit more too.
